Translation: I AM FEATURED IN THE JULY ISSUE OF THE PNW’s RUSSIAN LANGUAGE NEWSPAPER. 

The owners of the newspaper are long time Spokane residents who are originally from Ukraine. While most folks in Eastern Washington are aware that there are a lot of Ukrainians living in the district, they are often surprised when I tell them that there are 40,000 Ukrainians and another 10,000 Russian speakers who also call the district their home.

К сожалению я не говорю по-украински. I learned basic Russian at the Army’s Defense Language Institute, graduating in 1989. Unfortunately, I don’t speak Ukrainian. But I have been there many times—including under Russian rocket fire—and I support full military aid to Ukraine. 🇺🇦

Luckily for me, all Ukrainians speak Russian and they are forgiving that I don’t speak their language. But I DID make yard signs in Ukrainian…

LET’S TAKE OUR COUNTY BACK! This has a double-meaning in Ukrainian.
