Why I'm Running for Congress

Congressional candidate Bajun Ray Mavalwalla
I never planned to run for Congress.
After retiring from the military, I settled down in a remote log cabin in Eastern Washington.

But when I witnessed my son being arrested by the FBI for nonviolently protesting against ICE in the city of Spokane, it drove home just how easily power can be abused and how urgently ordinary people need someone willing to fight for fairness, accountability, and constitutional rights.

The District and the Nation Respond
The tremendous response from Eastern Washington—as well as the nation—to the stories of myself and my son has been extraordinarily encouraging.
My son and I share a name, and our stories are now forever linked as he fights for justice and I run for Congress.
